Austmine & AROSE – METS Space Cluster – February 2026

Join Austmine and AROSE for the next meeting of the METS Space Cluster!
Event Details
This Cluster brings together professionals from Space/ METS and Mining to connect, share knowledge and insights and identify pathways for future collaboration.
The projected growth of the global space industry to $1.8 trillion by 2035 represents a timely opportunity for METS and space companies to collaborate through shared capability development and two-way technology transfer. METS firms can extend their technologies into space applications, while space companies can draw on mining’s experience in harsh-environment operations and commercial delivery. Space-enabled technologies also offer powerful new tools for METS and mining, supporting safer, more productive and more sustainable operations.
Join us on Tuesday 17 February for the next Cluster meeting as our presenters, Anthony Jones, Green Nova and Davin Mai, Wrays, explore how the mining/METS and space sectors are converging, unlocking new opportunities for collaboration, technology transfer and growth across Australia’s mining innovation ecosystem.
Date: Tuesday 17 February 2026
Time: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm AEST | 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Location: Online via Microsoft Teams
Presenters

Anthony Jones | Founder and Chairman, Green Nova
With more than 30+ years working alongside the mining industry, and the past 5 years building space technology related businesses (including EY’s global space technology business and Green Nova), Anthony will cut through the hype and show how the space industry can help mining companies improve productivity, increase climate resilience, and manage community expectations.
Anthony will share insights on the role Green Nova’s ocean intelligence project is playing to reduce Scope 3 emissions while improving mining productivity, highlighting more broadly the practical opportunities to embed space derived data across end to end operations and offering a clear vision as to what next generation mining could look like.

Davin Mai | Patent and Trade Marks Attorney, Wrays Intellectual Property, Trademark and Patent Attorneys
Davin will discuss Wray’s recent paper: Patents in Orbit – Global IP Trends in the New Space Race and how these impact mining.
The rapid growth of the global space sector is driving a surge in space-related patent activity. Importantly, innovation is extending well beyond traditional aerospace into capabilities highly relevant to mining—including remote sensing, connectivity, robotics, data analytics and automation.
These space-enabled technologies are already underpinning safer, more productive and more sustainable mining operations. As they become increasingly embedded in the resources sector, mining companies that understand intellectual property trends and engage early through partnerships, co-development and strategic patenting will be best placed to capture value and maintain a competitive edge.
