SUMMARY:Austmine & AROSE - METS Space Cluster - June 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join Austmine and AROSE for the next meeting of the METS Space Cluster! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Details\nThis Cluster brings together professionals from Space/ METS and Mining to connect\, share knowledge and insights and identify pathways for future collaboration. \nJoin us on Tuesday 2 June 2026 for the next Cluster meeting. Featuring presentations from CSIRO and OQ Technology\, the session will examine next-generation remote operations capability\, direct-to-device satellite communications and the growing convergence between mining\, space\, automation and digital connectivity. \nAttendees will gain insights into how these technologies can improve operational visibility\, worker safety\, connectivity and productivity across remote and regional mining environments. \nDate: Tuesday 2 June 2026\nTime: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm AEST | 11:00 am – 12:00 pm\nLocation: Online via Microsoft Teams \n  \nPresenters\n \nDr Mark Dunn | Senior Principal Research Engineer\, CSIRO \nJoin us for a live cross to CSIRO’s Mobile Mission Operations Centre (MOC)\, an innovative new facility designed to support space launches\, remote operations and STEM engagement across Australia. \nThe MOC showcases the next generation of remote operations and control capability — an area increasingly critical to the future of mining as the industry moves toward more autonomous\, digitally connected and remotely managed operations. \nCombining CSIRO’s expertise in remote mining operations with a focus on space resources\, the facility highlights the growing crossover between space\, mining\, automation and communications technologies. \nHoused within a B-Double trailer\, the MOC expands on-site to accommodate up to 30 operators and features configurable multi-monitor workstations\, mission-status display screens\, resilient communications networks and off-grid power systems. \n \nCallum Brydges | Sales and BD Manager\, OQ Technology \nOQ Technology is launching a new satellite network that will enable direct-to-device communications. This technology allows users to access satellite connectivity directly from their mobile phones using a standard SIM or eSIM card\, without the need for additional hardware. \nFor the mining industry\, direct-to-device 5G NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) coverage has the potential to transform remote operations by enabling real-time monitoring\, improving worker safety and supporting more efficient resource extraction in isolated locations. The technology can help drive greater productivity\, operational visibility and sustainability across mining operations. \n  \nRegistration\nThe METS Space Cluster is available to Austmine Members\, AROSE Members and Miners\, and is free to attend! Please email membership@austmine.com.au for assistance. \n
